Always Be Prepared

Life as a leader is a 20-mile march, not a 100-meter sprint. The challenges of life are constant and enduring, not short and sweet.

How do you manage these challenges as a leader? Can you reduce these challenges? How do you stay prepared?

Let’s explore these questions in this article.

Can you minimize challenges?

It is very difficult to minimize or even control challenges, instead we as leaders should be asking how prepared we are? What would happen if a team member left? What would happen if a pandemic hit tomorrow?

Would you be prepared? Will you rise to the challenge or will you buckle underneath the pressure.

If you are unsure, then you know where you need to work as a leader. As a wise leader once said, “Fail to plan, and you plan to fail”.

How to you stay prepared?

Staying prepared as a leader means you need to be ready for any challenges that may occur. You need to be ready and take the time to reflect and learn.

Here are four points to look at when preparing yourself:

  1. Train your gut every day. Your intuition as a leader is one of your most powerful assets, but it does not simply appear. A gut is something you need to train daily so that it is ready when you need it. You need to rehearse scenarios in your mind and plan for any occurrence.
  2. Monitor your data points. Know what affects your business and keep your eye on them. The data always contains the answers, you simply have to take the time to analyze the data.
  3. Ask yourself what is the right thing to do, and is doing something the right thing to do? The right thing is to make a decision, even if that decision is not to act.
  4. Reflect and learn. Reflect on your week and what you can learn from it. How did you react to a challenge and how can you react better the in the future?

Decide, Take Action, Communicate

This is the motto of many a successful leader. Make a decision on what you are going to do, take action and do it, and communicate your plan to your team so they can join in on the action.

The worst thing you can do as a leader is to avoid or delay making a decision.
