Why cloud is still keeping modern CIOs awake at night

The benefits of cloud computing are very clear. Offering greater efficiency, improved collaboration and cost reduction, as well as scalability, faster time to market, mobility and competitive advantage, moving to the cloud seems a no brainer. Or is it?

Many CIOs are still rather uncertain about cloud computing. For example, a recent survey of CIOs in the healthcare space found that while cloud was on their list of top ten priorities and yet only 30% of these executives had some sort of cloud strategy in place.

The same survey revealed that more than half of the respondents (53%) were most concerned about cloud security. In line with this, control proves a major hurdle as CIOs worry that storing sensitive data outside of the organisation puts them at greater risk. The fear being that if they can’t see it, they no longer feel like they can control it.

According to Western Digital, “the cloud continues to be an asset, a challenge and a priority”.
